Basic knowledge about administrative map of Vietnam

Administrative maps (BDHC) What is that? 

Administrative map is a thematic map with professional elements showing the division of territory and management of administrative units according to the regulations of the State of Vietnam. (According to Clause 1, Article 3 of Circular 47/2014/TT-BTNMT) 


There are 6 types of administrative maps at all levels (According to Article 4 of Circular 47/2014/TT-BTNMT) 

National BDHC 

Shows the division and administrative management of provinces and territories of Vietnam. Including mainland, sea, island and archipelago. 

Provincial level BDHC 

Is an administrative map of provinces and centrally run cities. Represents the division and administrative management of districts and communes within the territory of a province or centrally run city. 

District level BDHC 

Is an administrative map of a district, district, town or city in the province. Represents the division and administrative management of communes within the territory of a district, town, town or provincial city. 

National episode of BDHC 

Is an atlas a collection of BDHCs at the provincial level, in the territory of Vietnam, of the same size. 

Provincial level BDHC episode 

Is an atlas a collection of administrative records at district level, belonging to provincial administrative units, of the same size. 

BDHC at district level 

An atlas is a collection of maps of communes, wards and townships, belonging to a district-level administrative unit, of the same size.

Vietnam has 3 regions including North, Central and South, corresponding to 7 different economic regions.

Northern Vietnam (Northern Vietnam) 

  • Northeast: Ha Giang, Bac Can, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh. 
  • Northwest: Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Son La. 
  • Red River Delta: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Ha Nam, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc. 

Central Vietnam (Central Region) 

  • North Central: Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Thua Thien - Hue. 
  • South Central Coast: Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Da Nang, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen 
  • Central Highlands: Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Dak Lak and Lam Dong. 

 South Vietnam (Southern Region) 

  • Southeast region: Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City. 
  • Southwest region: Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Ca Mau, Can Tho city.
